Its not bad, but this is my least favorite of the series. I would have liked to see more reflection of the Crystal Empire in her armor. I think Cadence would have been the mediator between the two Empires. She would be the voice of reason calling for peace. I love the entire series, and would love to have them as prints to hang in my home.
I can't wait to see what you come up with next. Maybe doing the villains next?
Well, this derives from the Sisters a little with a more... uh, decorative feel to the armor compared to the other two. Her not wearing a helmet, instead wearing a crown/veil thing reinforces that also. Also derivative to the warrior-princess vibe from Celestia and Luna.
Trying to think why this one feels different to the Luna/Celestia ones -- part of it (for me) is the darkness of the hind legs; compared to the other two princesses, they are so dark as to be nearly invisible, which means she looks bipedal at first glance. Not to say it's bad, obviously -- it's just not as distinctive as the other two (Celestia's barbaric splendor or Luna's 'black knight' look). Also I like the wing size you use for these; it's good to see a 'realistic' approach.
Yeah I might have gone a bit overboard with the darkness inside the dress. It's a funny but creepy idea of a bipedal creature like that. The ideas I have for Twi will probably be a bit more distinctive. We'll see.
Also, one of the things that I noticed that sets them apart is that Cadence doesn't have a big mane and tail that's in focus.
I don't think I could ever get tired of your art, your grasp on colour, shading, shapes, value (bernd reference for you there) are astounding. Glad I added you to my watch list and hope many more people come to see your work.
On a little note I'd suggest something similar to Pirill's comment. It seems a little too "dull" for something I'd imagine in the crystal empire. Although this might just be me over romanticizing it. Great work either way.
Wow. I literally just clicked watch about half an hour ago. I'm already not disappointed.
While it's not quite as striking as the Luna and Celestia pieces, this is still very nice. I wouldn't say worse, it's just got a different theme. The other two pictures seemed like badass warrior-queen-types, while Cadance seems more serene here. I'm getting a pretty big medieval Arabian vibe, what with the cloak, head-piece and the armour, especially the hanging beads attached to the gorget-looking plate on her neck. I'm guessing that's where you got the bulk of your inspiration? Regardless, it suits Cadence pretty well. The Crystal Empire and medieval Arabia are both pretty mysterious, and they seem to mesh well for some reason.
I'm also digging the background and little motto you've got going on. The effects for both are pretty nifty. Oh, and the art itself is gorgeous, but that's to be expected from the quality level that you've shown with your other work. If I'd have to criticize one thing, it'd be the legs. They're fine as is, but they could serve to have a bit more weight to them. They're looking a tad thin. Maybe a slightly more dynamic pose using the legs, too. Perhaps a hoof raised in the air or just off the ground? Just a random suggestion, and you're the artist here, so you can do what you want.
Other than that small nit-pick, there's nothing bad to say about this, really. Not sure what you're complaining about in that description. Very nice job. I'm looking forward to the Twilight one.
First of, thank you so much for the watch. It means a lot to me.
Don't worry, I will call it worse, so you don't have to. No but in all seriousness, different is a good way to put it. I had two things as inspiration early on. It was Cadence in her wedding dress and a sketch of a Greek dress. But after a while I just started making things up as I went along. That is probably the reason I'm not as pleased with this one. I didn't have a vision for it.
No no, you bring up a good point and others have brought up the same thing on the other pieces. I do have some trouble getting the legs right. I might be a decent artist. But I've got a long way to go before I can call myself a good one. The legs are a testament to that. That doesn't mean that I'm not overall pleased with my talent. But I'm not gonna lie to myself just to boost my ego. And all artist are harder on themselves than others. So I thank you for the feedback, it helps and is always welcome.
I'm probably just complaining because this took a long time to make and I got a bit tired of it. No biggie.
